Partners of Sex Addicts
Our work with the Partners of sex addicts is considered our greatest
specialty. Many providers today work with sex addiction, but few offer
the level of attention to the partner of the addict that S.T.A.R. does.
The partners of sex addicts present with a unique set of clinical traits
intimately interconnected with the disease of sex addiction. More specifically,
they harbor an intense level of anger, shame, abandonment, and betrayal.
These feelings are magnified because they have been adversely affected
by the addict’s behavior. The addict has acted out in a fashion
that far outweighs that of the alcoholic in terms of intimacy in a partnership.
The addict has gone outside of the relationship to fuel their addictive
needs in the most personal of behaviors; that of sexual activity. This
reality augments the partner’s reaction.
Treatment for them is equally important. S.T.A.R. has developed certain
protocols which allow the partners of addicts to seek help and heal
without the addict if necessary. This is accomplished through gentle,
affirming therapy both in group and individually, which helps the partner
rebuild their lives. S.T.A.R. has clinicians devoted to the treatment
of this very special population.
We have one active group. Partners groups are offered on Wednesday mornings between 9:30 am 11:00 am. Individual therapy is also available.
