Advanced GroupAs the name implies, the Advanced Group is made available to clients after the Task portion of their treatment has been completed. As described in the section on Task, a client is usually eligible for Advanced group after 1 year although many stay in the Task group longer. It is through clinical judgment that the therapist decides when the optimal time for transition is to occur. Clinically, a client who is a good candidate for advanced is one who has accrued 1 yr of abstinence from Bottom line Behaviors (BLBs are those sexualized behaviors which has caused the individual the most significant level of unmanageability and pain. It is those behaviors that one learns to abstain from and becomes the centerpiece of their addiction and subsequent sobriety.). That same individual is attending SLAA/SA regularly and also has a sponsor. Similarly, he or she openly identifies as a sex addict and has grasped the basic aspects of 12 step philosophy. The Advanced group focuses on more sophisticated levels of recovery. These include family of origin work as well as a return to dating or healing pre-existing relationships. |
